One component thioxanthone based Type II photoinitiators

چکیده
Thioxanthone (TX) and their derivatives are bimolecular Type II photoinitiators for free radical polymerization. Photoinitiation by these compounds is based on the reaction of their triplet excited states with a hydrogen donor thereby producing an initiating radical. On the other hand, they suffer from diffusion controlled limitation of reactivity and from deactivation by back electron transfer. In this chapter, we present a very efficient concept to raise the photoinitiator activity by covalent binding of hydrogen donating sites to the TX moiety. Mechanistic details concerning photoinitiated free radical polymerization using two classes of such one-component systems, namely thioxanthone-thiol (TX-SX) and thioxanthone Correspondence/Reprint request: Dr. Yusuf Yagci, Department of Chemistry, Istanbul Technical University, Maslak, Istanbul 34469, Turkey. The contributions of intraand intermolecular electron transfer processes followed by hydrogen abstraction are discussed. The use of several one-component polymeric photoinitiators is also described. These photoinitiators have additional advantages of overcoming the problems in curing applications associated with low odor and toxicity, and good storage stability.

Free radical macrophotoinitiators: an overview on recent advances
This paper provides an overview of the recent advances on polymeric photoinitiators for UV curing. During the last decade, significant developments have been achieved in the synthesis of macrophotoinitiators, due to the advantages derived of their macromolecular nature, in comparison with their corresponding low molecular weight analogues. In particular, a variety of macromolecules containing t...

N-(9-Oxothioxanthenyl)benzothiophene carboxamides bearing leaving groups (LG(-) = Cl(-), PhS(-), HS(-), PhCH(2)S(-)) at the C-3 position of the benzothiophene ring system photochemically cyclize with nearly quantitative release of the leaving group, LG(-). The LG(-) photoexpulsions can be conducted with 390 nm light or with a sunlamp. Solubility in 75% aqueous CH(3)CN is achieved by introducing...
متن کاملPhotolabile Amphiphiles with Fluorogenic Thioxanthone-Dithiane Functionality: Synthesis and Photoinduced Fragmentation in Micelles.
Novel photolabile amphiphiles containing thioxanthone-based fluorogenic caging groups are developed. Photoinduced fragmentation in dithiane-thioxanthone adducts was demonstrated to occur with 100% quantum efficiency at λ ~ 320 nm and more than 50% at λ ~ 360 nm. A plausible mechanism involves homolytic fission of a carbon-carbon single bond in the excited thioxanthone followed by disproportiona...

OBJECTIVES Our previous study showed poor mechanical durability and nano-sized heterogeneities in cross-linked dentin adhesives cured in the presence of water. To further explore the relationship between nano-scale heterogeneities and the long-term mechanical properties of dentin adhesives, the properties of model dentin adhesives polymerized using hydrophilic photoinitiators were compared with...
